Our client is a national firm and they are looking for a mid-level lawyer (Solicitor or Legal Executive) role managing a broad caseload of Wills, Estates work and Trusts work in the Birmingham office which is part of a major national Private Client Team, with significant opportunity for career development.
Our national Private Capital Team enjoys an enviable reputation with many recommendations and top tier rankings across our office bases in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners. We have been providing high quality private client advice for over 100 years and we remain at the forefront of the sector.
With significant practices in Bristol, Taunton and Southampton, we are looking to augment our practice by investing in our smaller Birmingham team. This appointment will be a key part of that strategy.
Based in a partner-led team, you will assist on a range of matters including will-drafting, estate administration and trust work (predominately trust creation). Our client base includes a high proportion of high net worth clients with complex financial arrangements, and while we expect you to handle straightforward matters with minimal supervision, much of your work will provide you with access to complex and stretching work subject to guidance and instruction.
While our Birmingham team is relatively small, we have a long heritage in the Midlands which has generated a significant Will bank and the team supports a catchment area across the wider Midlands area and also provides support to clients of our Manchester office.
As a team we want to grow, you will be involved in plenty of business development activities, which will include presenting at seminars, conferences and other talks with the Birmingham Private Capital Partner and other lawyers providing a wider range of Private Client services. Your audiences may be professional referrers or interested lay people.
You will need to travel from time to time, both for business development purposes and to make home calls and visits to less mobile clients.
As the team grows, you will be exposed to more complex work and there may be potential for developing additional related specialisms if they interest you. You will also be expected to play an increasing role in the development of junior lawyers.
You will enjoy the support of a national practice and the advice and guidance of many exceptional lawyers. This will include access to high quality precedents and reference materials, support from a dedicated professional support lawyer and knowledge services team and a superb level of technical training. We are keen to invest in your development and if you have not yet completed (or started) your STEP qualifications and membership we can support you in this.
You will probably be a qualified Solicitor with at least 3 years' pqe in Private Client work or a FCIlex (or approaching Fellow status) to handle the complexity of the work on offer, but we may be flexible for less experienced candidates who can demonstrate that they have gained a good standard of experience in will drafting and estate administration.
You will have no difficulty in travelling as part of your job and car ownership would be an advantage.
Providing excellent client service is at the heart of everything we do, and you will appreciate how important this is for our private clients, so you must be able to show us how you have impressed your clients and built relationships of trust and respect with them.
