An experienced employment counsel is sought to join the legal team where the role will be:
to understand and advise on all aspects of employment law, both contentious and non-contentious, in the UK, European and Asian regions with the aim of ensuring senior management and Human Resources understand the employment legal obligations in each jurisdiction and can make informed commercial decisions;
to handle all employment litigation; and
to seek to minimise the employment legal risks so far as possible.
Ensure that in conjunction with internal clients and other relevant departments, the team properly understand and aim to minimise the employment legal risks faced;
Ensure advice is accurate, practical and directed to the needs of the business in an understandable form;
To provide advice clearly in a timely fashion;
Ensure that decision makers or other relevant departments are aware of relevant legal risks or matters so they can make informed commercial decisions;
Managing employee litigation and providing advice on employee relations issues;
Drafting bespoke employment contractual documentation;
Providing various reports and updates including budgetary and provisioning reports; litigation updates and operational risk updates on a regular basis;
Where external counsel is instructed, effective management of budgets;
Be alert to Conduct Risk issues, specifically the risk of harm to client interests, market integrity and/or competition in financial markets due to inappropriate practices or behaviours across the firm.
A qualified lawyer with a significant amount of employment legal experience gained in practice or in-house in a financial service organisation;
Self-starter and capable of working independently with minimal supervision;
Ability to recognise reputational issues promptly and escalate appropriately;
Ability to take ownership of requirements/issues and ensure they are resolved to meet objectives; being responsive to client demands;
Ability to work on own but as part of a team on a global /cross departmental basis with good team working skills (regular contact with HR, compliance, PR, finance departments as well as the business stake-holders);
Excellent verbal and written communication skills: ability to update senior executives and lawyers in an appropriate manner including understanding the remit of being in a control function;
Competent in use of technology - hands on and able to take on administrative tasks as and when
