A global construction and infrastructure projects contractor.
An interim role has arisen for lawyer to join as Data Protection Officer at their offices in the heart of the City for at least six months.
Working with the HR business partner, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and will report to the Europe General Counsel.
You will be responsible for setting up appropriate data policies and procedures / monitoring requirements along with advising and educating managers & directors on best practise and compliance with the company's policies.
To inform and advise the business and the specific employees who are processing personal data of their obligations pursuant to this Regulation;
To monitor compliance with this Regulation, including the assignment of responsibilities, awareness- raising and training of staff involved in the processing operations, and the related audits;
Provide advice following data processing audits and any data breaches, monitoring and working with the business to address identified issues;
Provide advice where requested with regard to the data protection impact assessment and monitor its performance pursuant to Article 35;
To ensure the business cooperates with the supervisory authority requirements (the ICO in the UK);
To act as the contact point for the supervisory authority on issues related to the processing of personal data;
Provide regular updates to the CIO and General Counsel and provide advice and support on any changes to business processes as required;
Able to commence at short notice, successful candidate will have:
Expertise in national and European data protection laws and practices including an in depth understanding of the GDPR;
Understanding of the processing operations carried out within the business that would relate to the GDPR;
Understanding of information technologies and data security;
The ability to promote a data protection culture within the organisation;
Demonstrable experience in a similar role at a medium sized multi-national business;
The ability to communicate their area of expertise in a simple and effective manner;
Experience in supporting in process improvements and changes in relation to data protection.
