Job Description

A prestigious London based university.

A Data Protection and Freedom of Information Officer is sought to join the Legal Services team to provide advice on a wide range of data protection and freedom of information matters relating to the University.

This is a business and technology focused role which requires ambition and focus to help drive through the transformation required by an evolving institution against a background of increasing regulatory focus, transparency, competition, globalisation and a rapidly evolving threat horizon, especially in the information security space.

As a lead member of University's Data Protection and Freedom of Information team you will play a key role in managing day to day compliance with the UK GDPR and related rules.

You will provide advice on all matters relating to data protection compliance to staff at all levels and will assist in providing training and guidance.

A solicitor or barrister, you will have experience of dealing with a range of issues relating to data protection and freedom of information on a self-standing basis and a willingness to react confidently and quickly to emerging issues.

You will need

In-depth and comprehensive knowledge of freedom of information and data protection legislation.

Experience of developing, writing and promulgating relevant policy.

Experience in being proactive in establishing processes and standards to support the information obligations of the University.

The ability to propose and deliver workable solutions to a variety of relevant issues and to manage and prioritise a varied workload in a timely and cost effective manner.

Up to date technical knowledge and a willingness to undertake further training and development as necessary.

Evidence of the appreciation of the dynamics of higher education and an empathy with academic endeavour without necessarily having previously worked in the HE sector.

You will possess a collaborative working style with excellent communication and presentational skills and a demonstrable ability to delegate to and manage a junior team member appropriately.
