A highly successful, respected and innovative international banking and financial services company.


A pivotal role has arisen for a Head of Legal who will have responsibility for the management and development of a team of European legal professionals supporting the company's commercial and operations teams.

The role is to provide support and expertise on complex commercial and operational legal matters as it relates to the business in Europe.

Responsibilities will include:

The provision of legal support and counsel to the European business to include reviewing, structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial agreements, advising with regard to operational issues, and overseeing legal support for regulatory/compliance initiatives across the EU

Leading a team of 6-7 lawyers and legal support professionals in Europe.

Demonstrating strong business acumen and judgement, being able to effectively switch between the roles of a legal adviser and a business partner gained from working in a European / Global environment - either in-house or at a law firm.

Building robust relationships with company executives, sales, operations, compliance and product teams

Developing an expert deep understanding of the company's products, services and business models

Managing external counsel and legal budget


The successful candidate will have:

Admission as a solicitor in England & Wales and extensive experience of related work gained from working in an European or global environment.

The ability to work collaboratively across functions and countries to support and build the business

Strong influence, leadership and communication skills; being able to work at all levels within the organisation.

Experience of working in a Global Complex Matrix organisation

The ability to travel within the UK and occasionally travel overseas, predominantly in Europe.

A payments industry background

Additional European language(s) - ideally, German, Polish, Norwegian or French.
