Job Description

Our client is a national firm and they are looking for an associate to help develop the Nottingham office, you will be 8PQE+

Accountabilities

  • Integral part of the employment team reporting in to the Peterborough office but with responsibility and accountability for growing a credible and profitable employment department in Nottingham based predominantly on employer clients in the East Midlands
  • Delivery of individual financial targets with minimal supervision
  • Undertaking a significant amount of business development activities and working alongside other lawyers in Nottingham to win new work for the employment team and the Nottingham office as a whole
  • You will have a proven track record of BD and winning work alongside developing and growing relationships with your existing contacts and clients
  • As an experienced employment solicitor you will be able to confidently advise on the full spectrum of employment law issues from drafting documents, advising on dismissal, providing corporate support advice (TUPE etc.) and managing Tribunal claims
  • There may also be the opportunity to supervise more junior team members, particularly as the team grows in Nottingham
  • You will have your own existing client list and caseload
  • You will provide high quality employment law advice that is timely, accurate, practical and commercial
  • Ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and building appropriate relationships with clients
  • Adherence of agreed quality procedures and management systems
  • Undertake and deliver work in a commercially effective manner
  • Continually develop technical and non-technical skills to meet client and firm requirements and demonstrate continuous improvement in all areas of work
  • Travel required for working with the wider employment team, business development, meetings and training purposes particularly between Nottingham and Peterborough offices

Qualification

  • Relevant professional qualification or relevant industry experience

Skills/experience

  • Strong legal skills in employment services
  • A substantial existing network of clients and contacts in the Nottingham area
  • Excellent presentation, HR training and networking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of case management systems and Microsoft Office applications

Key areas of focus

  • Providing expert employment law advice on a split of contentious and non-contentious matters to predominantly business clients. These clients will vary from household named businesses through to small owner managed businesses

  • Confidence to work independently of the remainder of the employment team (who are based in Peterborough) whilst also reporting-in to the Head of Department in Peterborough and adopting good team working both within the department and within the branch office at Nottingham

  • Deals confidently and diplomatically with clients and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrates integrity and congruence when dealing with people
  • Personal responsibility for time capture, provision of costs information and fee recovery
