Job Description

International firm is looking for an NQ for the Newcastle office and you will be based in the Corporate rail team

Our rail team operates nationally, and is primarily based in Newcastle.

Chambers describes us in its national rankings as a: "Market-leading practice with expertise in complex and high-profile transactions. Handles the full spectrum of franchising, rolling stock and infrastructure matters."

Legal 500 states that we're: "a very knowledgeable and experienced team which responds quickly and is praised for its 'pro-active and reactive' relationships with clients. It is experienced in the procurement of rolling stock and rolling stock contracts, rail franchising and IT matters, and is also noted for its light rail expertise."

Our lawyers support rail franchising bids, rolling stock fleet purchase and rolling stock leasing and modification.

Our 3 partner team has an opportunity for a lawyer to join the team in Newcastle where post qualification experience is secondary to the desire to build, or continue to build, a specialism necessary to work in the rail industry.

What will you be doing?

Working on high value, major and high profile rail franchising and rolling stock deals. The clients are mainly train operators or rolling stock manufacturers.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

You'll be a newly qualified lawyer who's had exposure to quality corporate or commercial law during your training contract from a regional or city firm keen to specialise in the rail sector. That said, it's worth noting we're also interested to see applications from more experienced corporate or commercial lawyers and whilst a background in rail would be of interest, it is by no means essential. It's the willingness and enthusiasm to develop the specialist skills necessary for working in the rail industry that is key.

Whatever your experience level, you'll need excellent drafting skills, a sense of commercial pragmatism, a bright mind and a strong team ethos to help further develop the team's client base. And you'll be motivated to participate in business development that helps to raise the team's profile and network.

So what's in it for you?

We offer access to a wide range of transactions working with high calibre clients, in a collaborative and collegiate environment with opportunities to learn and work from leaders in their field.

Our culture is focused on our people - we place real value on personal and professional development. We have a transparent lawyer career framework, supported by a leading edge development programme that helps our lawyers achieve and perform at the highest level.

And that's not all, alongside a competitive salary you'll receive a flexible benefits package so you can pick and choose between the benefits that matter most to you.
