Job Description

THE FIRM

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career, working for an illustrious nationally regarded law firm in their Cambridge office providing a comprehensive range of services for business and individual clients.

THE ROLE

You will: -

* act for a wide range of employer, contractor and consultant clients across a number of sectors;

* provide written and oral advice to clients about the resolution of their construction and engineering disputes advising on the substantive and procedural law, matters of evidence and the appropriate strategy and tactics needed to achieve the client's business objectives including budgeting requirements;

* advise clients in relation to pursuing and defending claims brought under or in relation to the standard form contracts and bespoke forms of contract on the issues that habitually arise on construction and engineering projects e.g. contract formation and interpretation, loss and expense, extension of time/delay claims, defects, payment, design liability and professional negligence;

* represent clients, whether as claiming or defending party in the various techniques of dispute resolution like adjudication, arbitration, litigation and forms of ADR, including where appropriate, representing clients at hearings, tribunals and court;

* participate in client seminars/presentations, writing articles/blogs and involvement in client business development activities;

* draft and negotiate building contracts, appointments of consultants and collateral warranties;

* liaise with the real estate team on development projects;

* advise clients on procurement strategies for construction and engineering projects.

There will be a high level of supervision, but with plenty of opportunity to deal directly with clients.

THE CANDIDATE

You will be NQ+ PQE with experience in contentious and non-contentious construction work.

Marketing skills will be a great advantage to assist in developing the client base.

You will have: -

* Good academics - 2.1 degree or equivalent with good A levels or equivalents;

* Excellent written English for drafting purposes;

* Good technical skills with a sound understanding of contract and tort law;

* Precision and attention to detail;

* Ability to work to deadlines, commitment and enthusiasm;

* Thoroughness and conscientious approach to work and career;

* Enthusiasm to participate in marketing and client development;

* Excellent interpersonal and team skills, including the ability to work with others, influence and persuade;

* The ability to build good working relationships with clients and potential clients;

* Good research skills, including an ability to use online information sources;

* Presentational and advocacy skills.
